Simply Scandi
βI work with clients nationwide via my online design service and local onsite projects in Hertfordshire. I am passionate about creating calm, timeless homes influenced by Scandinavian principles of warmth and simplicity. Our lives are stressful enough so I want to make our homes the sacristy and stress free opposite.
Comforting the client
βCommon struggles I see amongst my clients tend to be centered around information overwhelm. We scroll approximately 300 feet a day on our phones, constantly absorbing new trends and picture-perfect homes, which means it can be really hard to know where to begin.
I created my moodboard workshop to solve this problem, in a bid to help my clients to be clear, focused and confident when starting their own design project.β
Trending for spring
βIβm not a fan of fast moving trends as I think our homes should be a reflection of what we love most, for longevity. However, if that trend is something you truly love and will really speak to you, then thatβs perfect.
There are definitely more timeless trends coming through in 2022 with earthy, brown, green and rust colour palettes emerging, plus classic, natural surfaces such as Travertine, marble and terracotta. What I love is that these trends can work beautifully with both a minimalist style, or something more rustic, and can be mixed with vintage pieces for a truly unique look.
Other key design details to look out for are chequerboards, which are a fun pattern to add into your accessories. Also sculptural, curved furniture is still on the rise.β
On the SWIRLED Collection
βI love the simplicity of the shapes in the new SWIRLED Collection! I can see how they would elevate so many different pieces of furniture, both new and old. The swirling detail really adds a deeper layer of interest and I appreciate how it catches the light so elegantly. Iβd use the long T-Bar Handles on a refreshed wardrobe, plus Iβd love to try out the Single-T Handles on my kitchen cupboards and drawers.β
Natureβs design scheme
βMy moodboard was really inspired by nature, which always informs ,my design style! Introducing colours and materials that are naturally found in the outdoors, allow you to create a room that instantly feels calm and tranquil. Sticking to a tight colour palette of green, off-white and brown shades, Iβve then added lots of texture to create warmth.
I would suggest layering materials to add depth; linen, velvet and natural stone. I've then used a dark stained oak and olive, for a richer pop of accent colour.
Keep things simple with the 60:30:10 colour rule: 60% of a main colour, 30% of a secondary colour and 10% as an accent colour. Finally, add a highlight material like brass.β
For minimalist inspoβ¦
βThere are so many Instagram accounts that spark my creativity. Firstly Iβd say @eyeswoon, the account of designer Athena Calderone. I love her style, choice in colour palettes, plus how she mixes new finds with vintage pieces.
Secondly, @anthology_creative_studio for their neutral design schemes and love of sweeping curves. They really demonstrate how keeping it simple, by focusing on texture and shape, can create beautiful spaces.
Lastly, for true kitchen inspo, is @nordiskakok. I dream of having one of their kitchens one day! Their designs always have a beautiful mix of materials in a neutral palette.
Equally, I get so much inspiration from the ceramicists, architects and artists that I follow. Iβm really big on texture.β
