KERV Interiors talk kitchen facelifts on a budget

Victoria & Emily are the interior design duo behind KERV Interiors (@kerv_interiors). They recently transformed a kitchen carcass by adding pops of colour and sparkling new hardware ✨

Let’s get to know who they are, how they designed this show-stopping kitchen and what they recommend for a budget-friendly facelift.

The beginning of KERV

"It all began when we met around 8 years ago whilst working for the same interior design company in London. We soon came to realise that we worked really well together. We decided to take the plunge and go for it ourselves, which is when KERV was created! KERV is our initials, and the name came to us straight away – we love the play on words. To this day, we’re on the same wavelength with design, and are constantly bouncing ideas off each other."

Bold, bright colours 🎨

"It’s difficult for us to pinpoint colours or patterns that define our style, although we do love a cool floral! We definitely tend to lean towards bold colours, even if it is just using them in a subtle way. Colour is our thing – we’re never afraid of mixing and matching patterns and bold colours."

Kitchen facelift on a budget

"We knew from the start that our client wanted a kitchen facelift – as this project was part of a full house renovation, we needed to be clever where the budget was allocated. The brief was ‘Soho house meets Tribeca colour pop’. So instinctively, we started off with the colour, and then thought about design. Choosing citrine was instant – we knew it was the one! We teamed it with birch plywood for the top cupboards and some design details to soften the space.

Part of the kitchen was removed to make room for the client's American fridge freezer – so we designed a unit which housed the fridge/freezer which doubled as storage, also adding open shelves for cookbooks as a nice homely touch.

We worked with one of our amazing joiners (@shayhousejoinery) who executed our vision perfectly! Creating the schedule took a lot of planning as we had quite a few trades to work around and tried to stick to a tight deadline so that the client could move in. Luckily, the installation went smoothly!"

Luxe cabinet hardware ✨

"We instantly fell in love with TURING’s subtle design detail. The brass teamed perfectly to give an added luxury touch to the kitchen, and we mixed the hexagonal TURING and HUXLEY throughout the kitchen for another design detail."

Upcycling kitchen doors 🔃

"As long as your existing carcass is in good condition, swapping the doors and adding new hardware can really transform your kitchen. This is a great way to keep costs down and avoid eating into your renovation budget. You would never know there is an old ‘skeleton’ hidden away!"

"If you aren’t looking to replace kitchen doors, why not simply paint the existing doors, and again add new hardware? This method gives even traditional doors a new lease of life and will have your kitchen looking brand new."

Tea & sparkling water BREAK

"Emily's pick-me-up brew and snack is without a doubt a strong yorkshire tea and digestive biscuit. Victoria doesn’t like tea (madness!) so she sticks to an elderflower sparkling water, teamed with salt and vinegar crisps."
