From books to bold lounge, with Becks
Are you a fan of colourful interiors and thoughtful styling? You’ll get on with Becks Huntley (@the_interior_lens), a keen DIY’er with a diploma in interior design. She’s here to share her expert knowledge on interior styling and how she created her dream lounge.
An imperfect property 🏡
“I loved the potential of the property when we moved in, but it was in need of significant TLC! We retained the period features but added modern twists to make it a home that reflected our love of old and new interiors.”
Diploma in action 👩🎓
“One of the most important lessons I learnt in my diploma was to think about how you want to feel in a room and what the role of the room is. I like to create spaces that are distinctly different but connect well with other rooms in the house. Our house is actually quite dark and finding the right colours that ‘work’ in dark rooms has been a learning curve!”

“My go-to additions for make a space more 'me' are:
Number 1 has to be artwork! It doesn’t have to be expensive, but I love the colour and personality it brings to a room.
Next is texture. I love to add cushions and throw to make spaces feel inviting.
I have plants in every room of my home as I love nature and bringing a sense of the outdoors inside.
Wood. I love natural materials and I think wood brings warmth to any room.
Finally, brass accents. Quality fixtures and fittings make such a difference to the overall look and feel of a room."
Pro tip for adding colour ➡
“For anyone who feels daunted by adding colour, I always recommend keeping your walls neutral and injecting colour through soft furnishings, ornaments and artwork. It’s an easy way to experiment and push your colour boundaries!”
The lounge project
"The living room is a north facing room and it’s dark most of the time. Rather than fighting against this, we decided to embrace it and create a cosy retreat to relax in. I chose rich, bold colours that ‘pop’ and bring life to the room – teal, pinks and mustard. I also added textured fabrics, like velvet furniture and cushions, a thick rug and mohair throws to dial up the cosy factor. The gold fittings also help to add a sense of luxury."
A premium touch 🌟
“I love brass fittings and I personally believe it’s a timeless metal that works well in a period home. The CAVE Knobs are excellent quality and I knew they’d work well to give the teal built-in unit a premium look and feel.”
A break for diet coke
“My go-to snack during a project is Diet Coke and some squares of dark chocolate every time!”
Learning on the ‘gram
“My favourite social media platform is Instagram. I have built up a great social network and have got to know so many inspiring designers. We exchange hints and tips and learn from each other. Three accounts that everyone should follow:”
